The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 1888. A Misstatement

We have already said as much as we consider necessary on the sub:ect of the voting to be done on Monday, but a paragraph in the Wellington Post from the Manawatu correspondent of that journal contains an error which deserves notice :—

"The ratepayers of No. 5 ward of the Manchester Road District, approve of the proposal to borrow money for road construction, although there is a good deal of objection to the amount scheduled for the erection of a bridge to Feilding. Naturally, good road commuvicatiom with Palmerston wilt meet all their requirements"

The italics are ours. The error we would like to point out is, that the ratepayers objecting to the bridge are those who, for the most part, reside in Upper Taonui, and therefore have already good roads into Feilding, not Palmerston, and the ratepayers who are most anxious to have the bridge at Aorangi so as to make communication easy with Feilding, are those who live on the Palmerston side of the river. This puts a very different coloring to the statement. There is no doubt if the Manawatu Road Board (which has its headquarters in Palmerston) could afford to spend any money on the boundary road along the railway line " good road communication would meet all their requirements," but as that Board has not in the past, and cannot in the future do anything of the kind, the " good road" will have to be made into Feilding by the Manchester Board. In this connection we may state some of our local men, who were "dead against the bridge" before, have changed their views since Palmerston made a bid for the trade on the " other side of the nver."
