LOAN FOR NO. 5 WARD.
TO THE EDITOR OF THK STAK.
SiK,— On perusing your leader of -the 14th inst., I deem it my duty on behalf of my myself and several others to protest against our action as being .ascribed to entire selfishness. As I •endeavoured to clearly state at Monday's meeting, Upper Taonui does not wish to disparage the bridge question at all, the only hitch being the amount. As to the several other bodies of ratepayers of the adjoining 1 districts, will jou, Mr Editor, kindly inform me who. they are ? I acknowledge my ignorance of any other body except the Manawatu Road Board intending to contribute. As I wag informed, the Manawatu Road Board has been asked to contribute, but when I inquired whether any other local body had been interviewed in regard to pledging themselves to share in the loan, I was told that it would be coisidered premature. May I be permitted to ask why it should be thought, more premature to consult one corporation than another ?— I am, &c, - W. H. FIBTOHBR, ....'.'. : '..•■-. Ashurst Road."
fThe other contributing bodies would M^ be the Manawatu Road Board, Manawatu County (Sandon Carnar* von District), and the Feilding Borough Council.— Ed. F. B. J
