Sir Thomas Mcll wraith intimates that when he assumes the office of Premier he intends to place the running of the railways under a Board of Commissioners. Sydney, Jane 11. The Chinese residents in the different colonies are uniting to memorialise the conference on the hardship they are undergoing. The Sydney Morning Herald, in an article dealing with the New Zealand loan, says the position of the colony has not been improved. by reason of Gosohen's conversion scheme. If the colony had maintained its position the loan would have realised five pounds higher, and in order to raise her credit she mast keep promises to abstain from farther borrowing. In attempting to arrest a man in Burke»street on Saturday night there was a serious melee between the police and a band of roughs who attacked the police. Constable Dalton was seriously injured and other members of the police force badly kicked. Two arrests have been made.
