A New Industry
At the meeting of the Borough Coun- ' cil held on Thursday last, a letter was ] read from Mr "William Sykes, of ■ Levin, stating his intention to start a , flaxmill in or near Feilding, and ap« \ plying for the right to cut flax on the , Borough lands and roads for which he was willing to pay one shilling per ton of flax. The Council very properly, at once acceded to the request and granted it with the reservation that it may be cancelled by , notice from the ; Council of one calender month. We have many reasons to believe that a flaxmill has just as much chance of being made a paying speculation iv this neighborhood as it has iv any other part of the West Coast. There is an abundance of the best material to be obtained within a comparatively limited radius, while the water supply is unequalled for this special purpose, viz., a good fall and plenty of it.
