. + In accordance with an' invitation from the Mayor, Mr Goodbehere, a meeting of electors was held last night in the Forester's Hall. The Mayor presided. He explained the object of calling the meeting which was in consequence of the action taken by the members for Manawatu, Bangitikei, and Foxtoh in protesting against the protectionist policy of the Government. He then submitted to the meeting the following resolution : — . Proponed by Mr Goodbehere, seconded by Mr H. Worsfold, That this meeting cordially approves of the course which Messrs Macarthur, Bruce, and Wilson, the members for Manawatu, Kangitikei, and Foxton electorates, have adopted in the interest of Freetrade principles, by withdrawing their support from the Government in consequence of its protective policy. The mover explained that these members had only withdrawn their support from the Government on the Tariff question. . Mr P. Thomson wanted to know why the two other members were joined in the resolution. He reiterated what Mr Macarthur had pledged himself to do before he went to the assembly. The resolution was then put and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
