Wellington, Jure 2. George Thomaa and Co. report an uninteresting market in produce for the week, and prices for all lines are without any change. Recent heavy -withdrawal* to the Melbourne and Sydney markets, of oats, hare caused a firmness in this line, and a prospect of advance- in present ruling rates. Several cheese factories have closed for the winter ; we look for an increase in the- value of -this article, which is now at its lowest extremity, scarcely covering expenses of making. Butter atiU continues firm in the Australian centres, and is valued there at Is per lb for primest parcels. We quote :— ilour, £8 IQs to £9 ss; fowls' 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; bran, £3 10s ; pollard, £4; short oats, 2s Id ; long, Is lOd to 2s; oatmeal, £9 5s to £9 10s; chaff, £2 15s to L 4; feed barley, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; beans, 3s 6d; peas, 3s 6d; rye grass seed, 3s 6d ; cocksfoot, 3£d ; Italian rye, 3s 6d ; maiie, 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; pearl barley, 22s 6d ; split peas, 17s 6d; cheese, 4d to 4£d ; hams and taeon, 7*d; fresh butter, 10d;salt ditto, 7d ; lard, 3£d ; honey, 4£d to sd; turkeys, 7s 6d; iowls. 2s 9d; ducks, 3s 6d; and geese 5s 6d per pair. The tariff proposal on fruit, Jd per lb, will cause some trouble and confusion, and it would much simplify matters if the impost was collected at .# so much per package, say la per u^ual V"' sized case ; there is no doubt tbat the proteefion at^apples, to^ib, wiU %xv» * diminution of o^nsignments.
