A New Plymouth Church Scandal
1 PER US XTBT) PRESS ASSOCIATION/! c New Plymouth, June 1. A disgraceful scene occurred to*dav, at the Presbyterian Church here. Mr Breach, who was minister, several years ago at the old church (<in.ce burned down) has suddenly asserted some claim to the new building, for alleged arrears of salary. He took possession of the church on Thursday, taking off the lock and putting on a new one, and placing a padlock on the gate. When the church ( 'ommittee became aware of this aotion, they procured tbe assistance of two policemen, and a to locksmith burst open the door. While they were so engaged Mr Breach came on the scene, and rushed excitedly at the constables and tried to force an entrance into the church- A struggle ensued between the .police and Mr Breach, which ended in the latter, after considerable difficulty, being ejected from ithe premises A watchman has been placed in the building, to militate against another attempt to take possess sion. :..,,.;.■'....
