Wellington Markets

-♦- Wellington, May 26. George Thomas and Co report produce prices as follows : — Since noting last week an advance in quotations for salt butter, several large parcels have been secured from farmers and holders for shipment to Australian markets, and there is every prospect of increased firmness in prices, and present values rule from 7£d to 7£d per ib for best descriptions. Values ' in oats have a tendency to harden, j especially for better class samples. A decided increase has to be reported in oatmeal. Pearl barley also shows an advance of 10s per ton. Other than the changes, the market is in much the same condition as last week, and we quote : Flour, £8 to £9 ; bran, £3 10s ; pollard, £4 ; fowls' wheat, 2s 6d to 2s lOd ■';- wheatmeal, £8 10a ; short oats, 2s Id ; long Tartarian and Danish, Is lOd&d to 2s; oatmeal, £9 15s ; sheaf chaff, £4 ; straw do, L 3 ; feed barley, 2s lOd ; maize, 3s lOd; beans, 3s sd ; peas, 3s 5d to 3s 8d ; potatoes, 50s to 52s 6d ; onions, £4 to L 4 10s; pearl barley, 225; split peas, 18s , rye grass seed (Poverty Bay), 3s 6d to 4s ; Italian rye, 3s 6d ; cocksfoot, 3£d to 4d ; eggs, 2s ; bacon and hams,' 7£d ; salt butter, 7£d ; fresh ditto, 9d ; cheese, 4d to 4£d ; honey, 4£d ; to sd ; lard, 3£d. The demand for poultry ia slight, and prices are unimproved, fowls still ruling at 2s 6d; duck, 3s 6d ; geese, 5s 6d ; turkeys, 68 6d to 78 per pair. Arrivals of fruit have been limited, and a chance is afforded to work off accumulated stocks of apples, &o. Values of all descriptions are still very low, and much improvement is necessary before shippers can expect to see any profits accrue on the consignments.
