Feilding State School
A meeting of the School Committee was held at the school-house on Friday . veniug last. Present— Messrs Watts (chairman), Worefold (secretary), F. Thompson Ranger, and Reading. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting, and of the special meeting of the previous week, were read and cosfirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : From the Education Board, in reply to the Chairman, stating that they cannot see their way to increase the echool allowance, and that the regulation re Truant Inspector is still m force. From the head teacher, reporting that Patrick Roache had commenced duties as a cadet on the 7th of April, haviug been appointed by the Board. From the same, showing the average roll to be 308, and the average attendance '2o2, being a decrease 'in the corresponding period of average roll 4, and average attendance 10. The report stated there had been much sickness during the last period. A long conversation was held on the question of using means to secure a better attendance, and it was Resolved, That the head teacher be requested to furnish the Chairman with a list of names of the more glaring eases of absentees or suspected truants, and that such list be placed in the hands of the Truant Inspector with a request that he report upou the same in writing at the next meeting of the Committee. The matter of retrenchment in the school expenditure iv view of the greatly reduced allowance was lengthily discussed, and the former specifications for cleaning, &c, were revised. Resolved, That tenders be called for cleaning the school, lighting fires, &c, to be advertised in the Feilding Star. Resolved, That the Chairman write to the Borough Council asking for an exemption, so far as the school premises are concerned, from the Council's recent regulation re the matter of the nightman. Resolved, That tenders be called for firewood. The matter ot excluding from the school any scholars suffering from infectious complaints was brought up, and after a conversation it was Resolved, That the Chairman write to the head teacher reminding him of the clause in the Act which refers to this subject, and requesting him to carry out the provisions of said clause whenever he deems it necessary.
