ENGLISH TEAM v. TARANAKI.

The football match, English v. Taranaki, came on to-day, and there was a large attendance. The play during the first half was fast, both teams being evenly matched, and no score was made. The Englishmen were conspicuous for their excellent passing, and the local men for sure collaring. Early in the second half H. Good, for Taranaki, secured a try, the kick being unsuccessful. One of the Englishmen got his shoulder hurt by a heavy: fall. The Englishmen made a desperate rush towards the close of the game, and tried to score, but were unsuccessful, Taranaki heing victoriby a try to nil. This is the first defeat of the Englishmen in New Zealand.
