Good short milling oats have a tendency in Southern markets to advance, in anticipation of a large export demand, but no alteration in values has yet taken place locally and we quote from 2s to 23 Id per bushel ; Tartarian and Dandish command from Is lOd to 2s ; oatmeal is in fair request at £9 5s per ton; feed barley, 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; pearl barley, 22s maize, 3s lOd; beans, 3s 6d ; field peas, 3s 6d ; split ditto, 18s; Der went potatoes, £2 15s for Oamaru, and £2 10s for Blenheim samples: onions, £4 10s; rye grass seed, 3s 6d to 4s : Italian ditto, 3s 6d; cocksfoot, 3£d to 4d per lb; factory cheese 4d to 4sd ; ditto hams and bacon, 7£d ; farmers' cure, 2d to 4d per lb ; eggs Is 8d ; fresh butter, 7d to 7^d perlb; salt ditto, with only a limited demand 6d to 6£d per lb. Prices for poultry are exceedingly low fowls ruling at 2s to 2a 6d, ducks 3s to 3s 6d, turkeys 6s to 7s, and geese, 53 per pair. First consignments of new crop of oranges and lemons from Sydney are to hand, and selling for 7s to 8s for the former, and 15s to 16s for the latter; apples are overstocked, and prices are still without the anticipated improvement.
