Seven boys, ranging in a age from 11 to 16, were charged at the Court to-day with stealing three footballs from two shops. In one case the charge was withdrawn In the olher three of the boys were fined, with the alternative of imprisonment. Evidently the visit of the English footballers has gives a stimulus to the game. ~

A deputation of the unemployed waited on the Mayor to-day, and, after representing their case to him, he forwarded a telegram to the Premier, stating that a number of married men of good character, most y with large families were on the verge of starvation through want of work. * '...■•■

A young girl named Matilda Simpson was sent to the Industrial school to-day for stealing several sold bracelets and lockets from Messrs Simpson and Little john, jewellers. She made a practice of pricing the goods, and when the shopman 1 s b:ick was turned, pocketed the articles.

A Maori woman named Mere Roki, at Otaki, wife of Rocb, a half caste, cut her throat yesterday. The wound is not serious. She will be brought te Wellington to«night. She is considered insane.
