The English Footballers arrived per Te Anau this morning, but owing to the early hour the Reception Committee w»re caught napping, only one member being present. There was a large crowd of the public, however. The visitors were driven in a drag to the Empire Hotel, and went to bed. As they .were not able to get berths they spent the night on deck. It has been raining heavily this morning, but the weather now looks promising. The ground will be pretty slippery, which will considerably benefit Wellington men. BLE»HEiM,~May 11. Dr Lemon, who arrived here this morning, proceeded to White's Bay for the purpose of verifying his tests at this side of Cook Strait as to the position of tha break in the cable. Should the weather keep fine. lie expects to have the cable in working order in ten or twelve days. Wangandt, May 11. A man named George Hatley was found dead yesterday at the camp of the Government survey party at Wagaehn. Chbhtchubck, May 11. A lad, a son of Dr Duflot, the Canadian doctor, was drowned in Halswell to-day. He was duck-shooting near Green Park with a party, which he left, and went along the river in a punt. As he did not return a search was made and his body was found in the river.
