Harbor Board Block

[FEOM OTJK O\m CORHESPONDBNT.}

I was passing along the Valley and Zig Zag xoa^s the other day, and I noticed the grass was looking well, I went through Mr Print's section, and he has now a good bit of the land he lately burned, in grass, which looks fine. Messrs Dunbar Bros, did not burn last season as the wet weather set in too soon for them, so they gave it best until next season. The grass on the sections adjoining the Pohangina and Valley roads is in abundance. Improvements are continually being made. Most of the settlers have now gone in for sheep farming, and their stock Beems to thrive well in this locality. Our only drawback is the roads which are very bad at present* We have now a school, but it is almost impossible for the children to attend. The axe is working very briskly, and the new buildings being ereoted are of sawn timber with brick chimneys. The apple crop has not been so good as it promised owing to the severe winds we experienced a short time ago. Fruit trees grow very fast in the soil we have in the Block, which is really excellent for all purposes. Mr Currie and family, from Marton, have just settled down in our neighborhood. His. froatages are on the Valley and Zig Zag roads. I like to see new settlers coming because' whatever progress we are making is always assisted by additions to our number, and when we are strong enough in numbers we will be able tocombine, and obtain fair consideration in having the roads made passable in winter as well as summer.
