Several gentlemen met by arrangement at the Mangaone School-house on Friday evening last, and formed themselves into a society/ to be called the " Mangaone Mutual Improvement and Debating Society." Mr- W. Gk Pearce, who has had some, experience in this business, being voted to the chair. After the object of the meeting had been explained by the Chairman, the Society was formed, rules were drawn up, and agreed to, and the following officers appointed, viz : Mr A: Eng, President ;: Mr. J. Nilsson, Vice President -Mr W; ; Gk Pearce, Secretary and Treasurer • and Messrs P. Andrew, A. Smith, and W. Fletcher a Committee of Management. The next meeting is called for f Wednesday, May 2,, at which a motion will be made and discussed bearing on the affairs of No. 5 ward of the Manchester Road Board,
