Kiwitea Road Board
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held oil Saturday last. Present; — Messrs Williamson (in the chair), Lucas, Bruce, and Haythorue. , The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed; The following correspondence was read: — From Chief Surveyor, re balance of money due on Kitubolton road coatract. From same, re delay in payment of deferred thirds in Special Settlement Block. From Secretary to the Treasury, asking when special order re striking rate re loan had beeu gazetted. From Mr Goodbehere, solicitor to the Board, re action Lyne y. the Board. From Chief Surveyor, re plan required for road between the Feilding and Falmerston Special Settlement. From F. Kink, asking for extension of time for completion of his contract. From H. Bailey, applying for cost of falling bustron road line. From J. McKenzie, applying for a slaughter license. From Paymaster-General, notifying that the following amounts had been remitted to the Board's account, viz., £1 gold fields revenue, and £151 6s 9d advance on account of subsidy. Fruui H, Gawler & Co., asking for permission to stack timber on the side of "the Kimbol ton road at the corner of Mt Death's section. Fr.jui J. Duuhar, asking permission to fell bush on rbad line adjoining his section No. 59. _ _,__ "■.. -MVHughey waited on the Board, re expenditure of deferred thirds by the Kiwitea Board on the Foxton Special Settlement Block! It was resolve!, That this Board undertake the expenditure^ of tbese thirds, aud ; on receipt of plans and specifications as to where the money id required to be spent, that the Clerk apply for consent of the Laud Board. Jiesolved, That an extension of time be granted F. Rink for completion of his contract for fourteen days. Resolved, That the authority for Mr Goodbehere to defend the action Lyne be signed and sealed. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Bruce, That Mr Dunbar be granted permission to fall the bush on road live fronting his section on the Board's usual terms. — Carried. Proposed by f Mr Hay 1 home, seconded by Mr Bruce, That Messrs Gawler and Co. be informed that the Board objects to any timber being stacked on the side of the road or any of the Board's property. — Carried. Proposed by Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That tenders be called for the undermentioiuol works: — Formation in the Pokau^ina Ward, Finnis' -road, about two miles in mile contracts ; Taonui and Pollock's road the same; Valley road, about two miles in mile contracts; Pohangina road, the cutting.— Carried. Resolved, That a slaughter license be granted to J. McKenzie as reqaested. Resolved, That the Returning Officer be instructed to take the necessary steps for the election of three retiring wardens. Resolved, That - the Clerk give notice by advertisement thai all rates unpaid in 14 days, from this date (April 21) be sued for. Proposed by Mr Williamson, seconded by Mr Lucas, That the dog registration fee within the boundaries of the Kiwitea Road Board District for the year ending December, 1888, be 5s per dog, and that Mr Edmund Goodbehere be appointed registrar, at a commission of 2s per dog, and that he obtain the necessary collars and badges. — Carried. Resolved, That Mr Lucas sign cheques at this meeting in lieu of Mr Taylor; , Accounts for £265 14s .9d were passed for payment and the meeting then adjourned.
