FOXTON RACES.
The weather was as fine as could le desired for the Foxton races, which came off on Saturday. The attend- . , ance was very poor, only about 300 j being present. The fields were pretty ( large throughout the day, and in two t or three of the events the finishes ', were very close. Altogether a good | day's sport rewarded those who journeyed to Foxton. The Makino Band ] was in attendance, and supplied some , first class music during the day. The sum of £1124 was put through the < machine. Following are the results : \ Hurdle Race, of 25 soys ; second ( horse, 5 soys. | , Armourer, lOst 41b (Morrigan) . . 1' , Orlando, lOst, (Holmes) . . . . 2 j Rufus also started, but refused to ' jump or gallop. Armourer won eas- ! ily by half a length. Dividend, £l ' , 17s. . Hack Hurdles, of 10 soys. Corsair . . . . . . . . I Ngatoto . . . . . . . . 2 Sir Garnet, Tommy, aud Cora also ' started. Won easily. Dividend, £1 17s. Autumn Haudicap, of 40 soys; second horse, 5 soys. Mr D. Scally's Rufus, 6st 101 b (Colletto) 1 Mr J. Oliver's Germaine, 7st 121 b (Laiug) 2 Mr Tancred's Revoke, 7st 101 b (Vaile) .. 3 Wanda, Armourer, and Spray also started. This race was a great surprise, the winner being almost friendless, owing to his roughUh tactics in the H urdle Race. From a bad start Ituf us went to the front, and soon had a lead of ten lengths, which he held until about a quarter of a mile from home, when he stopped all of a sudden until the other horses caught him. Then he started off again like a shot out of a gun, and led into the straight where he stopped again, but only for a secottd, when he went off again, and led to the finish, winning by five lengths amidst great excitement. Dividend, £17 10a. The Pony Race was won by Waitoupi from four others. Dividend, £2 4s. Hack Selling Race, of 20 soys. Rob Roy .. 1 Zodiac . . . . . . . . 2 Four others ran. This wao another boil over, only seven being on the winner, who paid a £13 10s dividend. Publican's Handicap, of 25 soys. Revoke, Bst (Vaile) . . . . . 1 Armourer . . . . . . . . 2 Germaine . . . . . . . . 3 Rufus, Orlando, Wanda, and Little Vixen also started. In this race Rufus would' ut try to gallop, being last all the way. Won by a neck, after a good race. Dividend, £6. llack Race, of 10 soys. Martonian . . . . . . . . 1 Corsair (I3lbs overweight) . . 2 Gladstone, Lttuudress. and Marks man also started. Corsair and Gladstone got the best of a wretched start, Martonian and Lauudress being left at the post. Martonian soon began to make up his lost ground, and coming into the straight he got on even terms with Corsair. A great race home ended in Martonian winning by a head, being the best race of the day. Dividend,. £2 Bs. An extra Hack Race, f mile, was won by Gladstone (88t), Laundress being second.
