The appearance of several thousand ' mounted Cossacks on the Galician frontier has created some alarm in the city. The Austrian officials are send- j ing the women and money into the . interior. London, April 16. The Times this morning announces : the return of General Boulanger for the Norde. Boulanger polled 190,000, while his opponent, M. Foneart, a Moderate Republican, polled 90,000. The election was conducted in a quiet and orderly manner. New Zealand Fours inscribed are quoted at 99|. Tallow— Mutton, 26a 6d ; beef, 24s 6d. Leather— The market is firm at from 9^d to lOd. Floquet, addressing the Commercial Union last night, said the Republic did not require Protectors in peace, or Dictators in war. Berlin, April 16. The Emperor's temperature ia rising. His condition is considered dangerous, and bronchitis is feared. Yesterday the Emperor again took to his bed. Sydnkt, April 16. Further revelations in connection I with the recently reported Corporation frauds shdw that oue city firm benefitted to the extent of £30,000. The frauds ia which this firm was implicated extended over a period of six years. At the Rabbit Conference to-day, several of the delegates objected to any new disease being introduced into the colony, and suggested experiments on Borne island off the coast. It was, however, pointed out that this would not be sufficient, as animal life existed under different conditions in the interior. Dr Hind, one of M. Pasteur's representatives, will be examined tomorrow. Gustavus Davis was sentenced today to death for a murderous assault committed on an old man at Dubbo. Mslboubnb, April 16. A new channel, wnich it is claimed will facilitate the work of bringing vessels up the Yarra, was opeued to-day. Brisbane, April 16. The manager of the Mount Merlin station, near Clonowong, is reported to havo killed a white boy, two black boys, and a gin living on the station. A fifth, whose life was also attempted, managed to escape. No particulars are to haud, but the matter is being investigated by the police.
