The Tuapeka Murder

1 PEE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.**!

Dunedin, • M arch 23.

It appears that a majority ofthe jury empannelled oh the Tuapeka Mouth tragedy, were in favor Of returning a verdict of murder. At first only two favored a verdict of manslaughter. The minority signified their intention of holding out all night rather than give in, and so the majority were gradually talked oyer. The two men in favor of a verdict of manslaughter succeeded in converting one of ihe other side to their ideas, and for a considerable time the forces were equal ; then another convert was made, and subsequently still another, but the last man held out stubb ornly for sometime. At length he agreed to a verdict of manslaughter. . It remains to be seen whether the prisoner will not be charged with murder at the Supreme Court.
