Volunteers
The Manchester Rifles paraded for inspection last night. Lieutenants Pleasants and Kirton were in attendance. There was a full muster, and Sergt-Major Macmillan gave the corps some sharp exercise in company drill. At the conclusion of the parade Lieut Pleasants presented Captain Macarthur's prizes to Color-Sergt Bilderbeok, Vols Stevens and Patterson, the winners.
In response to an invitation to attend the review at Wanganui on Easter Monday, about twenty gave in their names.
Railway passes will be issued for the Rifle Association Meeting on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, and for the Review on Monday morning, by Lieut Kirton.
At a meeting of the Council it was decided that all recruits joining in April neit, will be supplied with uniforms free of all charge, as the corps is in a good financial position. A challenge has been received from the Marton Royal Rifles to fire a match, 10 men a-side, on some Saturday near the middle of April. The challenge will be accepted.
