The Shooting Season
Wxlwnqtoh, March 15. The Gazette to-night notifies that native game, excepting tuis, white heron, and crested crebe may be taken or killed within the celony, except- in the Borough of Grey mouth and Wairau Lagoons, in the County of Marlborough, from the 30th March to Slat July. [This is an unfortunate blunder, and one for which the Wellington So- ' piety is solely responsible. - For tak* ing game that is generally admitted to be getting scarcer every year— duoks and pigeons— the full four months season is gazetted, but for game that is getting common/ and in this district becoming a sbourge to farmers— hares— only three months are 'allowed clearly a stupid blunder, and one the Colonial Secretary would not hare committed had he been properly advised. If the Wellington Acclimatisation Society would, act in concert with the kindred societies throughout the Provincial District, these blunders would not occur, uniformity of season and game would b* secured, and gentiine sport encouraged. The FeUding, Bulls, and Wanganni Societies fixed, the opening day for all game on AdtH 1, but their wishes have been disregarded, and the season opened only for, game that should not, io^ sowipff tp their scaztdfji be snot teOQtr, i-° " ,than May^J };,; / ■ ='?-•- / : V;, ;^^v^.:.:.^,:--'".
