WANGANUI RACES. 'The weather was pleasant for 7 the first day's racing of the Wanganui Jockey Club's autumn meeting on Thursday, and there was a large attendance. The following are the results : — Wanganui Cup Handicap, of 500 soys ; second horse, 50 soys from the stakes ; If miles. — Mr Keith's Dudu, 6st 51b (Myers), 1 ; Mr Clifford's Cruchfield, 7st (Morren), 2 ; Mr Dickie's Victoria, 7st (Brewer) 3. After several false starts they all got away splendidly. On passing the stand, Tongariro was leading, with Tetford next. Dudu led into the straight, and won by half a length, Victoria being eight lengths away, third. Time, 3min. B£sec. Dividends, £5 2s and £5 Bs. Wanganui Two-year-odd Stakes, a sweepstake of 10 soys each, with 150 soys added; 6 furlongs. — Hearn and Kennedy's Recluse, 1 ; Man Friday, 2 ; Adulation, 2. Tartar, Foxton, and Fair Ellen also ran. Recluse won easily by half a length. Time, lmin. 20£ sec. Dividends, £2 1 5s aud £3 2s. Welter Handicap, of 60 soys ; 1 mile.— Mr Saunder's The Shah, 1 ; Rimu, 2 ; Armourer, 3. They were despatched to a very indifferent start, Sweetie being left 200 yards behind. Cinderella won by half a length. Upon entering the straight, The Shah was seen to stagger a few times, and then fall dead, the rider being uninjured. Dividend, £1 17s. The second day's races passed off very successfully, with the following results: — Wanganui Derby, of 200 soys.— Mr Clifford's Crutchfield, 1 ; Mr W. Keith's Dudu, 2 ; Mr Munn's Waterfall, 3. Orator, Golden Crest, and Sweetie also, ran. Crutchfield led all the way, and won by half a length from Dudu. Dividend, £2 16s and £2 lis. Second Handicap Hurdles, of 100 soys. — Mr George's Armourer, 1; Dick Turpih, 2. Allegro and Orlando also ran, but fell at the third, hurdle. Armourer won easily. Dividend, £1 13s. Hack Hurddes, of 25 soys. — Promotion, 1 ; Te Ngamu, 2 ; Our Pony, 1. Won easily. Dividend, £ I 18s. Wanganui Stakes Handicap, of 200 soys. — Silence, 1 ; Escapade, 2; St. Clair, 3. This was an excellent race. Escapade led all the -way till on the post, when Silence came up with a rush, and won hard held by half a length. Nursery Handicap, of 60 soys.— Prudence, 1 ; Adulation, 2 ; Reclus, 3. Man Friday, Redwood, Tartar, Fair Ellen, Katioka, and Foxton also ran. Prudence got the best of the ptart, but at the half-mile post Recluse took command and led until entering the straight. A desperate struggle ensued up the straight, Prudonce getting the best of it by a short head, Recluse half a length behind. Dividends L 9 9s ; Ll 1 Bs. District Race Handicap, of 150 soys— Mr W. H. Keith's Dudu 1, Hagar 2, Rimu 3. Dudu led to the finish, winning with a bit in hand. Rimu came with a rush at the finish and secured third place. Dividend Ll Bs. Handicap Haok Bace, of 20 soys, — Camomile 1, Rara Avis 2, The Dove 3. Dividends L 7 10s and L 7 16s. Consolation Handicap, ef 50 soys. St Clair 1, Golden Crest 2, The Gem 3.
