Volunteers
A circular has been received by Captain Macarthur to the effect that for Class Firing this year the same targets and points as last year will be used. Some officers commanding companies in the South Island are complaining of the smallness of the capitation this year, it being only 30s for each efficient member. The companies on this coast will fiad the amount ample to meet all their legitimate expenses. The Grey town Volunteers are trying to get up an Easter Encampment in the Wairarapa. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association was brought to a close on Saturday last. The Champion Belt, with £40 added, fell to Major Purnell, whose score stood at 526 ; Johnston (Clutha) 2nd, 507 ; and Captain White (last year's champion), 3rd, 504. The Carbine Belt was secured by Lieutenaat Ross, of Napier, with a score of 512, Gunner Moore, of Otago, being second with 510. As Ross. has won the belt three times it now becomes his own property. In the team match there were 29 entries, which was won by West Taieri team, Wanganui Rifles being second. The Manchester team entered, but unfortunately could not get above third place irom the bottom of the list. They may, however, do better at W*ngaaui,
