The Otago Daily Times correspondent says the Oamaru race course, two miles from town, is the range selected by Captain Sommerville. He adds :— Although the competitors will shoot from about east to west instead of from north to south, the range chosen is an op6n one, and therefore fair to all marksmen— resembling Aramoho range, near Wanganui, where tho Association held its meet* ing in 1886. There is plenty of room for 50 targets if necessary, and a grand background. The range will be almost as level as a bowling green. There are no gullies leading down to the targets, thus creating all kinds of puzzling winds. The prevailing winds are north east and south west — that is from the right rear and left front. Should the ammunition provided be of good quality, I predict high scoring; and competitors possessing good judgment combined with accuraoy, wiil •find their way to the front. The Manchester Rifles assembled last night for inspection by Col. Stapp. Owing to the absence of members ai Oamaru and the Foresters' Banquet, the required number was not preseni therefore no parade was held. The next Government parade ol the Manchester Rifles will be held on March 23rd 1888. .'" The Wanganui Herald has sent t special reporter to Oamaru.
