Foresters' Banquet
The 12th anniversary of No. 6768 ' ; Court Loyal, Feilding, of the Ancient Order of Foresters, was celebrated by a banquet in the Foresters' 1 Hall last : night. About 40 members and others sat down to an excellent spread, the edibles of which were supplied by Mr i Gould, of Clair ville House, and gave | every satisfaction. The head table was presided over by P.C.R. Bro. 0. Bray, the Senior Trustee of the Court, supported on his right by His Worship the Mayor, and on the left by the Secretary, of the Court, P.C.R. Bro. Foster. The vice-chair was occupied by the C.R. of the Court, Bro. T. Hall, supported by the S.C.R. Bro. W. Portbouse, and the Woodwards, P.C.R. Bro. H. 0. Fowles, and Bro. G. Worsfold. After full justice had been done to the many good things, toasts, songs, speeches, &c, were given in the following order : - " The Queen" was honored in the usual loyal manner, followed by a song from Mr Reading, " Why rouse the British Lion." The Chairman next gave "The Army, Navy, and Volunteers, coupled with the name of Sergeant Ash worth, who responded, and sang "The Soldiers' Farewell," followed by the song, " Teddy O'Neil," by Bro. Hurdle. Bro. H. Worsfold proposed " The Land we live in," coupled with the name of Bro. Haybittle, who suitably responded, followed by a song, "The Emigrant's Farewell," by Bro. A. Adsett. Mr Carthew gave " The Mayor and Borough Councillors," which was acknowledged by His Worship, im a neat little speech^ Bro. Saunders, of Ashhurst, sang" I ' Happy Sam." Mr Nicholas proposed " Success to the Ancient Order of Foresters," to which Bro. H. Worsfold replied. Bro. Linton recited " Kegulus before the Roman Senate." Bro. Church, of Kiwitea, being called upon for a song, apologised, and gave a very humorous speech. Bro. H. 0. Fowles sang "The Rule of Three." Bro. Hall gave "The Wellington District Court and District Officers," which was acknowledged by Bro. P.D.C.R. Dust, of Marton. Mr H. Worsfold, junr., sang "The Bad Lad." The Mayor proposed " Success and prosperity tc Court Loyal* Feilding," congratulating the Court on its financial and general prosperity. Bro. Foster, th« Secretary, responded, and gave some interesting statistics of the Court's progress and present position, whicb particulars drew warm congratulatory remarks from Bro. Dust. Bro. H Worsfold sang *■• Kathleen Mavourneen," ahd Bro. Haybittle " Th( Grand Old Flag." Bro. G. W.Fowlw gave " The Visiting Brethren," whicl was acknowledged by Bros. Dust, ol Marton, Saunders, of Ashhurst, anc Stace, ef Palmerston, followed by th( songs " Maggie Dear," from Bro Dust, and "The Slave Ship," fron th© Chairman. Bio. Haybittle gay« "Kindred Societies," coupled witl the name of Bro. Garthew, of thi Oddfellows, who responded. Bro .Foster sang '* The Slave," and thei proposed «• The Press," which wai acknowledged by Mr Reading on be half of the Feilding Star, followec by Mr F. Pope with a song, " Mary the Maid of the Green." Mr C Brown gave " Tbe Ladies," couplet With the name of Mr Daw, who re turned thanks, after which Bro. Ligh sang "Erin's my Country," and Bro J. Turner " Flannaghan's Ball." Bro Foster proposed " The health of tin Chairman," who, having acknow lodged the compliment, called upoi the company to sing the Nationa Anthem, and thus terminated an ex ceedingly pleasant aad enjoyable evening. The following statistics were givei by Bro. Foster: — Members admitte' from 1876-87, 172: left, 98; clearance 11 ; death, 3 ; members end of yeai 1887, 60. Receipts from all sourcei from 1876-87, £1983 2s 6d; expendi ture for same period, £1406 lis 3d (sickness £242 6s Bd, deaths £110 1882 £7 18s 4d, 1886 £57 10s, 188; £46 10s 4d); balance, £576 lis 3d The Sick and Funeral Fund amounts to £572 6s 9d. Out of the 14 found, ers of the Court, there are only £ remaining, viz: Bros. Foster, Booth, Bray, Bilderbeck, and Daw. Average age per member, nearly 33 years; worth per member, £9 10s 9d. We have £100 invested on freehold property, bearing 8 . per cent, interest. Extract from valuer's report for the 5 years ending the year 1886:— "I consider your position decidedly satisfactory, and it rests upon the best of all foundations, viz. : a fairly sufficient and graduated scale of contributions." Surplus, £240 6s 9d.
