Auckland Licensing Elections

VIOTOEY OF TEMPERANCE £ARTY BY 3 TO 1. Auckland February 16. The temperance ticket was carried in the city wards by 3 to 1. In Ponsonby prohibition was carried by over 2to 1. The result is not merely an expression of temperance sentiment, but a revolt on the part of the public against the attempt of two or three brewers to dominate the whole city. At Ponsonby, when the return of the prohibition candidates was announced, the crowd around the polling booth cheeied again and again, and uncovering, sang "Praise God from whom all blessings flow;" Such a scene was never before witnessed. The legal points arising out of the, alleged detective nominations will now probably engage the attention of the law court.— Chronicle correspondent.
