The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1888.

Cure for Cancer We learn from our English telegrams ! fcl that in consequence of the attention j which has been directed to that fell ; w disease, cancer, which is supposed to j " have appeared in the ttnoat of the Crown Cl Prince of Prussia, the London Times has suggested a reward be offerred »J for the discovery of a cure or remedy. , There can be no reasonable objection to this, but we question its utility. For many years ihe most scientific „ surgeons in the world have been searching for it, but, beyond dis* covering certain means of alleviating , the dreadful pain accompanying the disease, their efforts have been prac. f ± tically futile. No reward, however j great, could incite these men to exert r themselves more than they have al- _ ready in the direction indicated. We t believe that a cure may be discovered, and devoutly hope so for the benefit j of suffering mankind, but when such j x discovery is made it will probably be i c the result of accident. Whoever that t fortunate discoverer may be will have I a fortune in his hand, and. will need no other reward than the riches poured j in upon him by grateful patients, < which, in a yery few years, would } would make him the richest man, as j weli as the greatest benefactor to his species in the whole world. .
