Wellington Markets

T ■. . ■ — • ' ■ ■ ' " ...-■,■ George Thomas and Co. report produce prices as, follows :— The harvesting of the new grain, has not sufficiently advanced for us to be in a position to make predictions as to the opening values. In our last report it was thought probable that quotations could be given for oats and wheat, but up to the present no parcels have been submitted to this market from the growing centres. Trade generally is quiet, dealers preferring to operate cautiously in the old lines of grain and produce and take the risk of opening values ruling at higher rates. We quote— Old oats short feed, 2s; long do, Is lOd to Is lid; oatmeal, L9ssto L 9 10s ; oaten sheaf chaff, L 4 ss ; flour, roller process, L 9 10s to L 9 15s ; stone L9ss to L 9 10s ; fowls' wheat, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel ; bran, L 3 ; pollard, L 3 5s to L 3 108; whtatmeal, L 9 10s; maize, 48; feed barley, out of stock; blue peas, 3s 6d ; beans, 3s 9d ; onions, Australian, L 5 to L 6 ; N.Z., L 7 10s ; old potatoes, 20s per ton; new do, L 3 10s to L 4; eggs, lid to Is ; honey 3£d to 4d per lb ; old cheese, id to Id per lb ; new do 4£d ; hams and bacon factory cure, 7£lb all round. Prices for fruit have greatly reduced, owing to the plethora of shipments from Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, and New Zealand districts; it would be misleading to quote prices, but for the information of shippers, values for apples, plums, pears, and gages have undergone a reduction of quite 25 per cent on last week realisations. The demand is still well maintained for apricots, oranges, and lemons. Poultry is still at last ..week's quotations— fowls, 2s 6dto 2s 9d; ducks, 3s 6d ; geese, 5s 6d \ '- and turkeys, 7s per pair.
