The New Zealand Rifle Association Meeting
i , ;•■•■. ; "—^ On Saturday afternoon Captain Sommerville came into town," and having received telegrams confirming the new that the extra, 50 Martini- j Henrys could not be obtained, he wired to the Government stating that Sniders would have to be used. The programme to be adopted at "Gamaru will be the same as last year's at Ohristchur jh, a sufficient number' of copies of which will be printed and circulated forthwith. It is also intended that the date (27th February), should remain as prginally decided on. I There are several- unsatisfactory s features connected with the failure to secure Martinis, , which indicate. vn T due pressure from some source or other, but as the matter will be thoroughly beaten out at Pamaru, there is no need to deal with it now. There will, of course, be . tbe two champion belts as heretofore, and it is rather to be hoped that one of them may be won right out this year, as this is sure to be the last meeting at which the Snider will be used. Captain Sommerville has wired to the Government requesting them to keep open the offer of 300 - Martini-Henrya, meaning that no effort shall be spared to secure a more satisfactory weapon than the Snider.— Herald. ;
