The Government are not disposed to purchase the Martini-Henri rifle* which the New Zealand Bifle Aasoeif> tion are anxious to obtain for use at the Oamaru meeting, but are willing to give facilities to the Association to obtain the weapons. The Hon Mr Fergus has informed Captain, Sommerville (representing the Association) that if the latter will guarantee £500 . about one-third the cost of purchasing 300 rifles and ammunition from New South Wales, Government will at once send across for them, payment to be arranged whea they arrire. The offer will doubtless be accepted. Oaptain tSommerville has been communicated with that the whole of the RemingtonLee rifles issued to the Association have been' called. -
