Messrs Hall and Tripe have changed their address, and in future their consulting and operating rooms will be at the Glasgow House, Grey street. It is currently reported m Wellington (says the Dunedin Star) that the Marquis of Normanby, who is en route far the colonies, is to be a resident of Wellington, or he will settle near Feilding on the Manchester Block where the Duke of Manchester owns land. The annual Home Missionary meeting m connection with the Wesleyan Church will be held this evening, when a number of Beverend gentlemen will f^r» addresses. The assemblage will meet in the church, Grey street, at 7.30, when the presenoe of all interested is requested. A petition to the Minister of Justice praying for a mitigation of the sentence passed on C. L. Wildbore, convicted of assault at the last sittings of the Supreme Court and sentenced to niae months imprisonment, now lies at Mr Carthew's shop for signature. Several hundreds of well wishers to the family have already affixed their names. Further particulars regarding the death of Robert Wilkinson at Dunedin on Saturday last, state that he had gone out shooting on a pony, and it is surmised that the pony was. startled by his firing, or slipped and threw him. At any rate, on search being made, on his not returning at the usual time, his body was found quite dead. H« was 21 years of age.
Shearing was commenced yesterday at the Oroua Downs. A concert will be held in St. John's Sunday school room this evening. T. K. Macdonald and Co/s Landed Property Guide for October is to hand. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that the National Insurance Coy's profit for the year is £16,333, to which is added last years balance of £4236 making an available balance of £20,669. The directors, declared a 10 per cent dividend, which added to the interim dividend paid in May* ab« sorbs £9806, leaving £10,854 to be carried forward. Hanlan's record for the usual Amer« ican course for a sculling mateh — 3 milrs with a turn — which was 21min 9 sec, was beaten on August 28th by a Philadelphia man named Galanaugh . He rowed in a 32-foot paper«shell, weighing 271 b ; the water was in good condiiton, and there was hardly a breath of wind, so that everything was in favor of record breaks ing. To-day's Times sarsj— Mr Perston, local manager of .the Bank of New South Wale*, receired a telegram yesterday stating that at the half-yearly meeting oi the Bank, held at Sydney, a dividend oi 15 per cent., with v 2\ per cent, bonuc, was declared, and £12,000 carried to the reserve fund, making the latter £900,000. — A young man named Charles Upham shot himself last evening at his parents' house, Tinakori road, Wellington The cause of the suicide was mouetaay troubles. A meeting of the Sports Committee was held on Saturday night, nearly all the members being present. . The prizes to be given away will be the same as last year. The privileges will be sold by tender instead of by auction as heretofore. The only alteration made was that in the gate charges children up to eight years of age will be free, from eight to twelve years half price, adults Is. The future meetings of the committee will be held every Friday night at Mr Bray's office. Mr F. Y. Lethbndge was appointed permanent Chairman, and Mr H. L. Sherwill Secretary. The owner oi the well-known imported trotting pony, Prince Charming, intimates his intention of giving a prize of £10 10s for the "best three-year-old exhibited at the show of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, of 1891, being the progeny of Prince Charming. This direct encouragement to breeders ought te have the effect of introducing a highly desirable class of animals, admirably adapted for pony carriages, combining the qualities of good roadsters with speed, endurance, and good temper.
