The Presbyterian Manse
This building has just been completed to the order of the Presbyterian Manse Building Committee from plans prepared by Mr W. Crichton, architect, of Wellington, Who deserves a word of praise for devising such a substantial and convenient building at such a moderate cost. , The building, which fronts Grey street, has a frontage of 36ft by a depth of 38ft, and is divided into six apartments with a large Hall 27ft long by 6ft wide. - The rooms are — parlor, 16ft x 14ft, inside measurement; dining room, 14 x 14; bedroom, 14 x 12; study, 14 x 10 ; bedroom 7ft 6in x 7ft 6in ; arid kitchen, 14ft x lOlt Gin. The whole of the walls and ceilings are scrinimed and papered with veiy neat papers. There are four fireplaces with semi-circular openings, and finished with handsome wooden mantlepieces. The outer walls are thirteen feet high and covered with rusticated matai boarding, with overhanging roof, supported by neat brackets. There are large windows to each room, those to the front being three light, and to the dining room there is a double window. The front door is furnished with side lights and fan lights for the hall. Along the front is an ornamental verandah six feet wide, supported on double posts of 5x 5 heart of totara, with the lower portion filled in with neat rails and crosses, the whole making a very convenient and compact dwelling. Mr W. Watts was the contractor, Mr P. Thomson undertook the plumber'B work, and Mr W... Francis, of Palmerston, the* painting, while Mr W. IX Nicholas acted as inspector of works, who has duly passed the work, which was completed by contract: lime, and all being faithfully executed. A close-boarded fence has also been erected in front. The Committee deserve every praise for the untiring energy and liberality they have displayed since, the scheme was first started, and the ladies of the congregation are specially to be commended for the valuable assistance they so cheerfully rendered. .
