The desjMitcheS from Mexico give details of the disaster, which w.as frightful. The town was obliterated, but - the 1209 inhabitants managed to escape with their lives by fleeing when the disturbances at Bavispe Qom~_ inenced: The topography of the country is changed in many places. Precipitous mountains have been toppled over and a large area of the plain has been sunk below its former level, fissures appeared everywhere emitting hot mud and batting water.
