Some controversy has taken place owing to the Governor, at his. levee, receiving the Defence Jft>rce before the Corporation official*. It has been explained that this was done because the Defence Force represents the whole community at large^ and the Corporation only a local section. - Adelaide, May 27. Lord and Lady Brassey will remain here a few days. H.M.S. Nelson Will be present in the harbour at the time of the opening of the Exhibition. She leaves shortly with H.M.S. Opal. Mr Parkes completed bis 72nd birthday to-day. The surviving members of the first Parliament under a responsible Government dined together on Monday. Eleven were present. Several others •were acoouated for, but unable to atteud. The Agricultural Show, it is said, has not been a financial success. Busiuesa continues exceedingly dull. Another' attempt i is being made to secure the liberations ,of the Mount Bennie prisoners.
