Following on the erabroglio in the Borough Council Chamber, Councillor Bastiau Was to-day charged on the information of Councillor McDonald with assaulting him. Defendant alleged provocation. The Bench characterised the assault as an outrage upon society, and upon men engaged in the performance of public duty, and fined Councillor Bastian 35. costs £1 12s. There is a movement on foot to pay the fine and re-elect Bastian to the Council,
