j[>Eft VNITED PIiKSS ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, March 8 The Wangauui races were a great success. The weather was fine, and there was over 2000 people present. There was not much excitement when -he Cup was coming on, as it was looked on as a moral for Silence. 4)*er £2000 went through the totalizators on the Cup alone. The following are the results : — First Handicap Hurdle Race, of 100 soys. About two miles and a distance*. — Mr J. Driscoll's Reputation Nygst 101 b, 1 ; Mr Guinness' Blue Bell, 71b, 2 ; .Mr Powell's Germaine, lOst ]6lb, 3.. Master Agnes, 12st ; Druid, lOst 71b ; Freebooter, lOst; Auctioneer, >Bat 71b; Pathfinder, Bst 71b ; and Landseer, Bst 71b, also ran. Widewake and Prospect were scratched. Dividend— lnside, £5 10s ; outside, £8 10s. Time 4min 14£ sec. Hack; Hurdle Race, of 20 soys. About one mile and a distance. — Waitangi, 1.;. Orangeman, 2 ; Reform,^. Dividends, £l 10s and. £1 9s. , "W^anganui Cup of 500 soys; second lio/se .to receive, 50 soys from ; the stakes. Distauce two miles. — Mr. P. Martin's Silence 7at; 71b, (White) 1 ; Mr W. Bobbett's Lady Norah, 6st 101 b, (Kidd) 2; Mr A. J. Hoskins Rumour, 7st, (Williams) 3. Waitiri, BsAl2lb; Tigredia, Bst; Friendship, 7st 31b, and Armourer, 7st 3lb, also started, Cindrella and. British Lion being scratched. Silence started a a great favorite in the. machine with Tigredia second. After a couple of false starts Lady Norah got first away followed closely by Rumour, with Silence holding a good, position fourth. Coming lip the straight the excitement was intense as Lady Norah looked like winning, but she was unable to beat Silence, who won with apparent ease, -Rumour being' a.good ■' third. Waitiri was never prominent during the race, and Tigredia pulled up dead lame. Time 3min 38sec. Dividend, £5 ls. .Flying Handicap, of 100 soys.— Cinderella, Bst 61b (Hope), 1 ; Hagar, 6st 101 b ( White), 2 ; Parvenu, Bst 51b (Scott), 3. Rimu and Hippona also started. Time, Imin 19sec. Dividend, £1 6s. Welter Handicap, of 60 soys. One mile : — Cindrella (Hope), 1 ; Ruapehu (McCormick), 2 ; Ascot, 3 Goth was the only other starter. -Master Agnes B^gar, Armourer, Rufus, and Hippona; were pcratched. Time, Imin 47£ sec. Dividend, £1 ss. Wanganui, March 9. The second day's races passed off very successful.
