ALAEM AT NICE. TEEEIBLE SITUATION OP THE PEOPLE. London, February 27. The excitement and alarm created by the earthquake hare had no equal of late years in Europe, but now that Mount Etna has burst into activity anxiety and terror are on the increase rather than on the wane. The general feeling of insecurity has reached feverheat, and in Nice a perfect panic is still raging. At least 15,000 people have left the city, and the exodus of affrighted people still continues The greatest solicitude is felt as to the fate of villages in districts yet unexplored. Throughout the Riviera the railway lines are completely blocked. Throughout the afflicted country scenes occurred heartrending in the extreme. Bed-ridden and sick people, even those on the point of death, were i taken from their homes and placed in open spaces. Everywhere could be seen crowds of bewildered and screamingly frantic persons. A thousand people were killed in Genoa. Savona was entirely laid in ruins. Slight shocks are still felt in Italy.
