The Outrage at Tonga
t,FEB UNITED FBEBS ASSOCIATION.! Wellington, February 11. The Premier has telegraphed (in the absence of the Governor) to Admiral Tryon asking him tqjsend a man-of-war to Tonga to ascertain what is taking place there, and pointing out that if there is a disturbance any foreign vessel might be asked to hind a force, and if this were done it would be very awkward. The telegram states that the means should be made to induce the power to withdraw that force. The premier asked the Admiral to reply as. soon as possible, as he wished to telegraph Home and to Melbourne on the subject. Later. Sir Robert Stout has received a reply from Admiral Tryon to the effect th-t the matter is under the Admiral's attention. ! Auckland, January 11. Admiral Tyron states that he sees no immediate necessity to despatch a warship to Tonga, but that ultimately the state of affairs there will have to be thoroughly investigated when a man-of-war goes down.
