A young man named I )uncan Craig, a painter, was killed this morning. He was employed painting Te Arp, House, Cuba Street, and in stepping from a window to the scaffolding he slipped and fell to the ground. His skull was fractured, and he died almost instantaneously .- He was a single man. : ■ ■ . ■ Thi* Day.; At the inquest on the fire, at Lambton Q.uay, Mr Arrowsmittrsaid he lost. £105 in his cashbox' Mr Murray, assistant in his shop, said he had charge ef the box on the night of the fire and to the best of his belief there was not more than £12 j or £15 in it. Both gentleman announced themselves as Government supporters. February 9. * In banco to day, Mr Justice Johnstongave judgment for the respondent in the case of Porter v. O'Conor, an appeal from the decision of the Resident Magistrate at Christchurch in respect to bookmakers betting totalisator odds. Costs £10 were awarded against Porter.
