[per united puess association.] Woodvillb, February 4. There was great excitement here last night in consequence of some dead log* round the houses in the south-west part of the town taking fire. The light wind caused the fire to spread rapidly, and at one time at least a dozen houses were in danger of beiug burnt. The occupants cleared out, the townspeople helping them to remove their furniture. But little damage was done. At present the wind has fortunately dropped. Wellington, This Day. A strong N. W. gale is blowing, with heary ruin. The races hare been postponed till next Saturday. .N elson, This Day. A determined case of suicide took place yesterday. A. woman named Jes«op, of Washington Valley, took Hough on Rats and a quantity of arnica. She had indulged somewhat in liquor.
