Jackson and Co.'s Feilding sale. F. R. Jackson and Co. held a sale at Glasgow House this afternoon. The attendance was good and the bidding brisk. Our readers are reminded of the grand concert to be held in the Public Hall tomorrow night. Mr Newman has just received a consignment of Hematite paints of all tints and shades. The Manchester Rifles will parade at 6.30 to-morrow afternoon for Govern- | ment inspection. The Evening News says it is expected the railway connecting Napier and Woodville will be opened in March next. ! Considerable disappointment has been expressed by a number of people because the Fisk Jubilee troupe will not again i visit Feilding. We learn there is every probability of the Rev. Mr Treadwell, of Wanganui, lecturing in Feilding at an early date.
Mr Tucker, assistant telegraphist, at the local post office, goes for a month's holiday to-morrow. He will be relieved by Mr Aiken, of Wellington.
Mr Bradey has been very successful in disposing of tickets for his Art Union of oil paintings. Thirty have been placed in Sandon and Feilding, and the rest will probably be disposed of in Palmerston and its suburbs. The paintings were forwarded to Palmerston this morning to be exhibited. Applications for tickets may be sent to Mr Bradey at Taonui.
A run-away horse and cart without a conductor safely negotiated the open gates at the Presbyterian Church during last night's meeting, it afterwards made a complete circle of the building at a splendid pace and pulled up short in the fence corner, taking a splinter from the corner of the church and causing intense excitement inside as the cries of children outside were heard above the din. Fortunately no one was hurt.
Mr J. W. McDuff, coachbuilder, etc., of Wanganm, who has become quite celebrated for building hose-reels for brigades, has lately built one for the Wanganui Fire Brigade, which will be taken by the representative team to Dunedin shortly and will be used by them in the competition of the various fire brigades in the city. A meeting of the members and supporters of the Church of England in Awahun was held in the school after divine service on Sunday last, January 30. Mr Weightman presided. It was remarked that the attendance had fallen off, and especially since the Rev. _Mr Jones had removed from the district. The lay reader, however, was unable to comply with the suggestion of some present to hold the service at 3 o'clock instead of 11 by way of enabling more to attend. A deficiency in the fuuds was all but made up by the subscriptions of those present. The retiring church committee was re-elected with the substitution of Mr Pilkington for Mr Bennet who retired.
