Another Fire in Wellington

[pKB UNITED PBKSS ASSOCIATION.} Wellington. January &>. A fire broke out at 1 20 o'clock this morning in the auction mart of Messrs Hassell and Company, auctioneers, Lambton Quay, and before the Fire Brigade got tho flames under, tho building was gutted. The building was full ef produce, and the fire ap^ pears to have originated under the. skylight at the top of the back portion of the building but how is surrounded in mystery, as no gas or fire waa used anywhere near there. A retail sale o* fruit took place in the building last, and at 1 1 o'clock Mr Hassell looked up when everything appeared safe. Fortunately there was no wind, op other-wise the Star Hotel and several other buildings would have been destroyed. Mrs Pringle's millinery shop next door was saved with difficulty, but the contents were damaged ta some extent hy water. The insurances on Hassell's building are — £300 in the Victoria and £100 in the Standard, Stock— £soo South British; £250 v" Victoria ; £250 Equitable ; £sM}Ji§r London and Lancashire. Mr Hassell estimates his loss at considerably above the insurances. Not much stock was burnt but being perishable goods suffered by water. January 31. Mr Hassell offers £100 for the con-, viotion of the person who set fire to his premises.
