EXCITING SCENES. At the Takapuna races (Auckland), run on Saturday last, the lollowing occurred : — Anniversary Handicap. — Jessie l r Catsby 2, Friendship 3. Tbe start was disputed, and a great disturbance took place. The starter, Mr Owen McGee, was under police protection, and the people were demanding their money back at the totalisator. There* were cries of "No start," and owing to the attitude of the mob the police escorted McGee, the starter, into the stewards' room. On beiug questioned McGee stated that the start was fair. The stewards, however, resolved to run it over again. Ewen Allison, the alleged owner of Jessie, the winner, refused to run his horse again, and the race resulted in Catesby being Ist, Friendship 2nd, and Reproach 3rd ; , dividend £41 ; only four tickets ou Jessie. In the first affair the dividend was £164; Allison had one or two tickets and the trainer one. It is reported that Allison threatens legal proceedings for recovery of the stakes and totalisator money.
