Manchester Road Board
The ordinary meeting was held on Saturday last. Preseut — Messrs Lethbndge (Chairman), Pryce-Jones, Pleasants, Macarthur, aud Cotter.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CO RIIESPOXDENCE. From J. H. Taylor, applying for a renewal of slaughter licence. G. S. Rumble, the same. From John McGool, Ashhurst, applying far permission to fell bush on section No. 34.
From Gk A. Jackson, re alleged overcharge iv his rates. From A. Bell, re Mangaone road.
From H. Browning, Makino, re the refusal of the Board to allow him to put two- gates across the Mangaone road, and asking permission to erect one.
From M. Henaghan, stating hi» contract was completed and awaiting inspectioa. From. Colonial Secretary acknowledging amended certificate re- special order made by the Board. From the toll collector at the Gorge, stating that certain tolls had beea paid by the master, which had been refused to be paid by the servant. From T. Nelson, Ashhurst, asking permission to pay a yearly toll over the bridge. Petition from certain ratepayers of Ashhurst, for an opening to be made through sections 74 and 75, for a watercourse.
From Michael Enright, offering todo the work required in above petition. From Property Tax Commissioner,, re valuation roll.
From Clerk "Wairarapa County, enclosing letter re Woodville-Paliner-ston road.
From J. T. Stewart, District Engineer, re handing over roadman's cottage and tools on the Gorge road. From the Colonial Treasurer re £6000 loan, stating the application had been provisionally granted.
From C. B. Izard saying he wa& not xeponsible for certain rates* BUSINESS. Proposed by Mr Macarthur,. seconded oy Mr Pleasauts, That the fees for slaughtering licence for the- year ending, 31st December, 1877 r be one* pound sterling and that the fees payabie under the 34th clause of the Slaughter Houses Act 1877 be one halfpenny per head of small cattle, and threepence for every head of great cattle slaughtered, and that Mr C. Bray, senr., be slaughter house | inspector, receiving the fees of £d and I 8d per head as his remuneration. — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Macarthur, secon* ded by Mr Pieasaufcs, That the application of Mr J. H. Taylor and Mr liunible for slaughter licences be granted. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pryce-Jo-nes seconded by Mr Cotter, That permission be granted to Mr Juhu McCool to fell bush on the road line joining his property on the usual terms. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Macurthur, seconded by Air Pleasants, That the collector sue for all outstanding rates at once, and 25 names be drawn for each court day. — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Macarthur, seconded'by Mr Pleasant^, Tnat the Engineer be instructed to spend the sum of £20 to improve the Spur road leading to Mr & Smith's property. — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Pryce-Junes, seconded by Mr Cotter, That the dog tax for the preseut year be iive shillings for sheep aud cattle dogs, and ten shillings for all other dogs. — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Cotter, seconded by Mr Pryee-Jones, That tenders b& called for collecting the dog tax for the ensuing year. — Carried.
Accounts for £84 16s 7d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
