The back of the dwelling was discovered to be on fire by a passer-by who, failing to rouse the inmates, ran to the nearest fire bell. The fire was confined to one house. As soon as possible an entrance was effected when the bodies of two men, fearfully mutilated, were discovered huddled together. One was recognised as the proprietor, and the other as a man named Kelly, a laborer. Both men had been drinking over night.
