BATCH OF OFFIOEES GOT NOTICE TO QUIT. (PEE UNITED PRKSS ASSOCIATION ) Wellington, January 6. Government intend making con- ! siderable reductions in each department of the public service. No re- \ duction of salaries is to be made, but various offices will be amalgarua- , ted. At the present some fourteen . officers in the Native Department have received notice that their ser--1 vices will not be required after the i 81st March next, the end of the fin--1 ancial year. Considerable saving will '■ also be made in the administration of the Native Land Court by the act of ; last session, by making Resident Magistrates, when practicable, per form the duties of recorders, who have vested iv them under the act all the powers and authorities of a judge.
