A meeting of the Central Board of Health was held at the Government Buildings yesterday afternoon, when there were present the Colonial Secretary (Mr P. A. Buckley), President, • the Undor-Secretary (Mr Gk 8. Cooper), Dr Hector, and Captain Tohnson. The other members of the Board — the Secretary of Customs (Mr Seed), and the Eegister. It was decided to lake the same course now with regard to the small »pox in Australia as was taken about two years ago> under similar circumstances — namely,' that the Union Steamship Company's steamers submit all passengers and. crew to strict examination at Australian ports of departure for New Zealand, and all carry experienced surgeons. The Government will arrangefor the examination of every vessel from Australia at the port of arrival, and at every port of call in New Zealand. In case of failure to comply with these requirements, and of disease being apparent, strict quarantine/ will be enforced. — N. Z. Times.
