Sporting

The summer meeting of the Palmerston Racing Club eventuated successfully yesterday. The attendance ( was very large, including a number of visitors from Wellington and surrounding districts, and the racing on the whole was fair. With the exception of tbe Handicap Hurdles, in which Germaine rewarded her-sup-porters with a div. of £4 14s, the dividends throughout the day were very small. The Makino Band were in attendance, and acquitted themselves admirably. Mr S. Abrahams *' rah" . the totalisator with his customary success. Mr R. Leigh, the Club's secretary, deserves a meed of praise for his courtesy and attention to visitors, and both he and the stewards are to be congratulated on the success that attended their summer race meeting for 1886. The following is a brief summary of the events : — Handicap Hurdles — Germaine 1, Satan 2, MerHlegs 3. Dividend, £4 14s. The Hack Hurdle Race fell to Waitanga.
