A meeting of the creditors in tho estate of William Whisker, a bankrupt, will bo held at the Courthouse, Bulls, on Tuesday ; the 14th instant. ! In our report of the proceedings at the lust meeting of tho Manchester Road r.oavd tho name of JMr Plcasants, representation of No. 5 ward, was inadvertently omitted.
The train last night took down several j trucks of wool. Tenders for grass cutting on the railway line are advertised for to-day. Mr Young advertises tho arrival of a consignment of new fruit and fresh vege- ! tables. : A strong broezo of wind from the north west to-day, raised clouds of dust in the streets. The entries for the Feilding Boxing Dav Sports are coming in thick and fast from all parts of tho colony. We notice from the Napier Tolograph that Fred Hird. was charged with stealing lotters from the post office — not Fred Hill as telegraphed. It is now certain that the first class militia consisting of all unmarriod men bdtwoon seventeen and thirty years of ago, will be called out early next yoar. We have to thank Mr Mathoson, Hon. Soc. of the Palmerston Elocutionary contest, for a complimentary ticket for the event which will take place on the loth instant. A meeting is convened for Tuesday next, of those burgesses interested in securing a majority at the poll m favor of the project of erecting a traffic bridge at Aoraugi. Athletes would do well to boar in mind that nominations for the Feilding Boxingday Sports close with the secretary, Mr E. Goodbehere, on Saturday next, the 11th December. Tenders arc invited to«day for the erection of a dwelling house near Feilding, by Messrs Atkins and Clere, architects. The building is fur Mr H. C. Wilson, near Waituna. Mr Asher has done so well in his shop, in Fergusson street, that he has determined to stay for one week longer, and he intimates in our wanted column the new linos of goods he nas to offer. The Manchester Ernes will parade for Government Inspection to-morrow afternoon at 6.30, and for judging distance practice on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The latter refers only to mombers who did not attend the parade on the previous occasion. Constable Meehan arrested, at Halcombe, a man named Henry Ryan, this morning:, ou suspicion of lunacy. The poor fellow is laboring under the delusion that there is a conspiracy, under the leadership of Mr Ballance, to poison him with chloroform. Yesterday morning, when Christian Abel, son of Mr Abel, of Makino, was returning home from the cheese factory where he had been delivering some milk, the horse he was driving bolted and the lad was thrown out. On being picked up it was found his leg was broken and he was otherwise much bruised. Dr Monckton set tho injured limb. Mr Alfred Eade publishes to-day a notice that during the illness of his brother, Mr J. W. Eade, he will carry on the cabinet and undertaking business as heretofore. In this connection Mr Eado tlesires us to say that he is not in any v/aj" identified with the Mr Ea,des who recently failed in Wellington. It will be observed that the name or the latter has an addisional letter. The Feilding Brass Band will play on Manchester Square on next Saturday evening. The following is the programme : — 1. Cornet Solo, "Gertrude." 8. Gallop, "Hard and Fast." We have received a dozen of ale from the brewery just started by Messrs Scott and Holland, in Warwick street, Feilding. The sample is full bodied, palatable, and evidently the outcome of sound malt j and hops. It is superior, in this respect, I to any other beer imported, and we hope i as a local industry, it will take the place of the outside r abbish sometimes foisted on our hotelkeepers. One of the surest signs of returning business actiyity to the colony is the ridicule news papermen are|beginning to cast on longwindcd customers. An exchange has the following hit at a non-paying subscriber : — "A man who is owing us a little said he would call and pay us if he was alive. He still appears m the street, but as he did not call, it is naturally supposed that he is dead, and walking round to save funeral expenses." The counts in the indictment against Anckland made cartridges are being increased by fresh "accidents" almost daily, but in fairness to the manufacturer we think the Press Association agents, who wire tho news, should ascertain positively where the cartridges were made. The Auckland maker should also telegraph tor the case immediately a faulty cartridge is reported, and it is highlyprobable that in nine instances out of ten it would be found they were imported into the colony by private vendors. The following statement of assets and liabilities in the bankruptcy estate of William Whisker, of Kavra Kawa (Feilding), butcher and farmer, is not encouraging to his creditors. The unsecured liabilities are returned at L 1,119,, 119, and the assets nil. Messrs Stevens & Gorton, L 212; D. B. Lowers L 300; Halcombe & Sherwill, LSO ; Win. Just after passing Hitchman's, on the the Kimbolton road, the horse bolted, and threw the occupants of the vehicle out, each of whom sustained severe bruises. Before the horse was captured it succeeded in smashing the front part ; of the trap, and injured one of its hind i legs. The ( firm is to be congratulated on the novel, ( striking, and tasteful wiiy in which their ', new establishment has been plann-d and J fitted up. So attractive it is, in fact, that no one passes by without being com- j pellod to stop and inspect :he magnificent ( display of watches and et ceteras so ' temptingly set out. On Saturday night the place was like a fair, crowds of people ( jostling each other in their efforts to see , 'the show,' which, indeed, is one of the sights of Auckland. Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co , have earned a great reputation for honest deulinc, first-class goods, and low prices', and there can be very little doubt but that their enterprise < in fitting np their new premises in the i attractive w?vy they have will me«t with ] its reward.— Auckland Exchange. j
