Bridge at Aorangi

+ The meeting of burgesses held on Tuesday, a report of which appears elsewhere, was satisfactory in the respect that it was unanimous. We would Have liked, however, if more of the business men had been present to give expression to their views ; also their determination to support the project by an energetic canvass to secure the presence of the required number of electors at the poll. As regards the latter, there is yet time for a good Working Committee to be formed for that purpose, and we hope to see those who will so largely profit by the erection of the required bridge, shake off their apathy and show they have a real and earnest desire to forward not only their own, but the interests of tho whole of the community. Something more than mere passive approval is wanted, and we would recall to their memories the homely old proverb that " they vrill catch no sparrows if they waifc for the heavens to fall." In the present circumstances of the Borough a sum of nearly £5000 spent in wages and material in improving the suburbs is not to be despised. J Since the above was in type we have received an intimation that a meeting of burgesses, for the purpose of electing a Working Committee, will be held at Mr Bray's office on Tuesday next.]
